WITH
Sergio's TEAM | about the guide

This tour is the ideal way to discover ancient Roman ruins and impressive Renaissance architecture. If you are visiting Rome while on a Mediterranean cruise, your guide will happily pick you up from Civitavecchia Port. You will soon be wandering through the historic center of Rome on the lookout for its most amazing sights and best hidden treasures. Your guide will take you on a journey through time from the city’s ancient Roman origins to the Renaissance, Mussolini and up to today. Travel back to Roman times at the Palatine and Aventine Hills, the Colosseum and the Roman Forum - the stage for 2,700 years of triumphal marches, sacrifices, political meetings, elections, fights, revolutions, murders and conspiracies. As you move forwards through the centuries, admire the sumptuous architecture of St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican; stop for a rest on the sweeping Spanish Steps; throw a coin into the iconic Trevi Fountain for luck; and admire Byzantine mosaics and masterpieces by Italian artists like Caravaggio in one of the many magnificent churches.

Rome

I was born, raised and still live in Rome. Inspired by numerous family holidays aboard, I started working in tourism in 1970 and haven’t looked back since. I’ve worked mainly for leading tour companies in Italy and Europe, but over the last couple of years I’ve been based in Rome. I love this chaotic city filled where the past, present and future blend together. Guiding is an amazing job that enables me to be free, independent and out of an office! My big passion is history (the subject of my degree), everything from medieval wars to modern day politics. I love answering your questions and always try to adapt my tours to your interests and past experiences. My hobbies? Reading, concerts, the movies, skiing and food – I can give you some great restaurant recommendations.

Sergio is one great tour guide, and we have had many in Italy, France, and Spain over the last twenty years of travel. He is extremely knowledgeable and his passion for history comes through. He even corrected my Latin at one point! I had my sixteen year old grandson with me on this trip to Rome and Sergio made it a point to direct the discussion to him and not me, engaging my grandson's perspective. Sergio has a great sense of humor. I would recommend him to anyone visiting Rome. (I've been there twice in six months and am a little Rome'd out for a bit--but I'll be back)!
