- Francesca | about the guide
The city of Florence history goes with the House of the Medici, a powerful family who ruled over the tuscan capital between the 15th and the 18th centuries, influencing the economy, the science, the politics and the arts scene. On this comprehensive walking tour, you will go back in time, retracing the life of the Medici dynasty while visiting the places connected to their past throughout the centuries. Along the way, your knowledgeable guide will uncover the stories and secrets of the Medici dynasty, explaining their political and economic rise over the centuries. Going to the Medici Chapels, you will discover some of Michelango's masterpieces such as the New Sacristy and the tombs of the Grand Dukes. There, you will also marvel at the incredible decorative mosaic made of polychrome marbles and semi-precious stones (corals, lapis lazulis, mother-of-pearls, granites ect…) in the vault of the Cappella dei Principi. You will also visit the San Lorenzo Basilica, the Medici family church designed by the tuscan architect and sculptor Filippo Brunelleschi where you will see the tombs of the Medici ancestors such as Giovanni di Bicci, Cosimo the Elder and Piccarda Boeri. Your visit will continue to the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, known as the first residence of the family designed by architect and painter Michelozzo, and where Michelangelo used to live as well. There, you will marvel at the beautiful frescos of the Medici depicted as Magis, as well as some artworks of Benozzo Gozzoli in the Magi Chapel. If you would like to end your tour in a relaxing note, discover the delicious tuscan wines during a tasting accompanied with snacks, just before heading for a Medici Dynasty Show in the Fuligno Theater, former Convent of Sant’Onofrio delle Monache di Foligno dating back to the early 15th century (optional: to see with the guide).

I was born in the beautiful city of Florence, and I have been a qualified tourist guide since 2008. After getting a degree in Modern Cultures and Languages at the University of Florence and studying in Spain at the Universidad de Valladolid, I worked in several different fields before turning to tourism. Guiding is my full time job and my certification was issued by the Italian government once I received my tourism diploma. Every winter, I study and update my knowledge by attending refresher courses to always provide fresh, interesting and high quality tours. For me, guiding is the best way to express my love for my city and show it to people through the eyes of a local. I’m a passionate traveler as I think it is a mind-opening and enriching experience. I have a true passion for history, especially the Medici family and the Convent San Marco. Like any true Italian, I love good wine, gelato and I’d describe myself as a real foodie. I like nothing better than taking a book to the Caffetteria delle Oblate with a spectacular view of the Duomo, while savoring a good cappuccino. Designed to feed your curiosity, my tours cover a wide range of topics and monuments including Renaissance and Middle Age history, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Giotto, Medici family and much more.
