Florence Artisans Tour
Walking tour in the world of Florence’s craftmen
- WITH
- Francesca | about the guide
The Unesco World Heritage city center of Florence had been carefully preserved since its creation during the 1st century BC. On this tour, you will discover its exceptional artistic and cultural patrimony, discovering various craftmen shops whose works and knowledges are still supported today by the Corporazioni di Arti e Mestieri (Craft Guilds). You will start with the visit of the Church of Orsanmichele, ancient place of worship under the tutelage and sponsorship of the Florentine guilds in the medieval time. Then, you will walk through the cobblestone streets of the historical center, heading towards the old quarter of artisans where hundreds of workshops are still perpetuating know-how and traditions from the Renaissance. You will meet a goldsmith, a brass-worker, a paper decorator, a mosaic-maker and a leather school, all working in their traditional botteghe (workshops) and still using techniques passed down from generation to generation since centuries. On your way, you will also pass by some of Florence's highlights such as the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Giotto's Bell Tower and the Brunelleschi's home. Your knowledgeable guide will also tell you about the Florence medieval architecture and its main artists, as well as the importance of the patronage of the guilds to the artists. You will also enjoy a gelato stop in one of the traditional ice cream shops.

I was born in the beautiful city of Florence, and I have been a qualified tourist guide since 2008. After getting a degree in Modern Cultures and Languages at the University of Florence and studying in Spain at the Universidad de Valladolid, I worked in several different fields before turning to tourism. Guiding is my full time job and my certification was issued by the Italian government once I received my tourism diploma. Every winter, I study and update my knowledge by attending refresher courses to always provide fresh, interesting and high quality tours. For me, guiding is the best way to express my love for my city and show it to people through the eyes of a local. I’m a passionate traveler as I think it is a mind-opening and enriching experience. I have a true passion for history, especially the Medici family and the Convent San Marco. Like any true Italian, I love good wine, gelato and I’d describe myself as a real foodie. I like nothing better than taking a book to the Caffetteria delle Oblate with a spectacular view of the Duomo, while savoring a good cappuccino. Designed to feed your curiosity, my tours cover a wide range of topics and monuments including Renaissance and Middle Age history, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Giotto, Medici family and much more.
