- Francesca | about the guide
This tour combines the best of Florence’s artistic and culinary heritage. Embark on a journey back in time to discover masterpieces by Italian artists, in particular Michelangelo, and the secrets of Italian cooking. The tour begins bright and early at the Galleria dell'Accademia to avoid the crowds. This art gallery is home to some of Italy’s most famous works including Michelangelo’s David, which you’ll be able to admire close up. The Italian art theme continues at your next stop, the Medici Chapel, which also contains works by Michelangelo such as the funeral monuments for the Medici family known as Night and Day and Dawn and Dusk. After exploring the Sagrestia Nuova, you will visit a mosaic workshop during which you’ll learn more about this fine art. If your appetite works up and you would like to improve your knowledge of Italian cooking, your guide could also lead you through the delightful streets of central Florence to a prestigious cooking school, Scuola di arte culinaria cordon bleu. On the way, you’ll stop by the Central Market, cross Piazza Santissima and admire the Annunziata. Under the guidance of a professional chef, you’ll learn how to make pasta and then enjoy the fruits of your labor with a glass or two of fine Italian wine to finish the tour (optional: to see with the guide)

I was born in the beautiful city of Florence, and I have been a qualified tourist guide since 2008. After getting a degree in Modern Cultures and Languages at the University of Florence and studying in Spain at the Universidad de Valladolid, I worked in several different fields before turning to tourism. Guiding is my full time job and my certification was issued by the Italian government once I received my tourism diploma. Every winter, I study and update my knowledge by attending refresher courses to always provide fresh, interesting and high quality tours. For me, guiding is the best way to express my love for my city and show it to people through the eyes of a local. I’m a passionate traveler as I think it is a mind-opening and enriching experience. I have a true passion for history, especially the Medici family and the Convent San Marco. Like any true Italian, I love good wine, gelato and I’d describe myself as a real foodie. I like nothing better than taking a book to the Caffetteria delle Oblate with a spectacular view of the Duomo, while savoring a good cappuccino. Designed to feed your curiosity, my tours cover a wide range of topics and monuments including Renaissance and Middle Age history, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Giotto, Medici family and much more.
