Venice Highlights Tour

Half a day of basilicas, squares, masks & gondolas

WITH
Elisabetta | about the guide

This half-day walking tour is an ideal way to discover the main highlights of Venice, especially if it’s your first time in the city. Jump aboard a public boat and meander along the Grand Canal, the city’s main thoroughfare, as you admire the homes of Venice’s rich and powerful. Hop off at St Mark’s Square for a glimpse of Venice’s most famous monuments. Next stop? The bustling market and beautiful squares of Rialto with a revitalizing stop for an authentic Italian coffee. Discover where Giacomo Casanova was born, as well as the lesser known area of Zattere, which was built in the 15th century as a landing dock for timber and is home to one of the only remaining gondola-making workshops. Enjoy a glass of wine or a cicchetto before continuing into the heart of the university area to find out more about mask-making at one of the largest workshops in the city. Why not finish the tour with a delicious Italian meal at a local trattoria?

I was born in Venice where I lived and graduated in Art and History from the Ca' Foscari University. After my studies, I decided to go abroad to practise my languages. I had some family in London so I moved there and worked at the American Express Travel office for almost 10 years during which I also travelled a lot all over the world as part of my job of travel planner. In 2000, after a year in Florida working also in tourism, I came back to Venice as I was missing the Italian weather, food and lifestyle. I also wanted to have a life change so I decided to become a tour guide, a job I am passionate about and that reminds me of the quote “choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”. I love working with visitors of all ages, adapting myself to their needs. And to keep them interested, I always try to mix interesting information with humour. It doesn't matter what you say but how you say it. During my tours, I like to show the true Venice, something deeper than the postcard picture: the Islands of the Lagoon, the baccari, the legends of Venice, the Venetian traditions, the life of Casanova. But also the Veneto region: the Dolomites, the Lake Garda, Padova and Treviso. Despite my age, I remain a permanent student, always curious to learn new things. Besides Venice, my other favourite place are the mountains where I like climbing in the summer and skiing during the winter.
