Treasures & Flavors of Historic Paris

Half a day discovering Ile de la Cité, Ile Saint-Louis & the Marais

WITH
Irina | about the guide

Perched in the middle of the Seine River, Ile de la Cité is where the city of Paris began. This tiny island represents more than 2,000 years of Parisian history and is packed with scenic sights, from the stunning stained glass of the Sainte-Chapelle to the medieval fortress of Conciergerie and the majestic cathedral of Notre-Dame.

Next to the Ile de la Cité, sits the quietly fashionable Ile de Saint-Louis, one of the most exclusive and romantic spots in the city. Sprinkled with private mansions, small restaurants and speciality boutiques, it is delightful place to watch the world go by while savoring an ice cream or sipping a coffee.

Back on the Right Bank, just one bridge away, is the historic Marais district. Now filled with trendy bars, boutiques and galleries, the Marais is one of the oldest parts of the city and still showcases many Medieval buildings. The Jewish quarter is packed with traditional bakeries, pastry shops, falafel places, trendy restaurants, cozy cafes and wine bars with a selection of hand-picked sweet and savory treats to sample along the way if you wish!

A native of Moscow, I left Russia 10 years ago at the end of my journalism and French literature studies, to come and live in Paris. Passionate about the French capital, I became a State-licensed guide in Paris, France. After guiding at the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Versailles, Grand-Palais and other Parisian museums and exhibitions, I moved to The Netherlands for family reasons. I now continue to guide in Amsterdam and The Hague. I hold 2 Master’s degrees—in French humanities and journalism, and I continuously expand my knowledge of European art history and history. I’m not a lecturer, though. I strive to provide academic-level tours in a fun and accessible way. I worked for several years in journalism and marketing before I embraced my passion for culture and became a guide. I enjoy the conversational format of a private group, and I’m always happy to adjust the tour to your interests and needs. Another of my favorite activities is hiking that I practice all over the world (Nepal, Ecuador ...). Any of my tours can be given in English, French or Russian languages.
