This full day tour is the perfect opportunity to experience Amsterdam like a local. Following your hotel or airport pick-up, you’ll start your personalized walking tour in the center of this lively Dutch city. The itinerary is flexible and can be adapted to your wishes, although it usually includes an outside overview of the main highlights such as Dam Square, the central square in Amsterdam that is home to the Royal Palace and the Netherlands National Monument. You’ll also explore some of the most important churches like De Oude Kerk (The Old Church) dominating the Red Light District; Westerkerk and its easy recognizable tower; Nieuwe Kerk (The New Church); and let’s not forget the many hidden churches built after the Reformation when Catholics could not worship openly. As well as visiting the city’s main sites, you will be exploring secret local hotspots, cosy cafés, unique shops and beautiful canals and bridges, such as in the De Negen Straatjes (9 Streets) area. The Jordaan district is also well worth a stop – this working-class neighborhood has been transformed into one of the trendiest locations in the city. During your tour you will also stop at a nice cafe to taste a delicious traditional Dutch apple pie called Appeltaart accompanied with a cup of coffee. After all that walking, you’ll hop on a deluxe private boat for a 2-hour canal ride with a refreshing aperitif and appetizers on board. If you’d like to have lunch on the boat, just mention this when booking. During the ride, you’ll meander along the famous canals against a backdrop of charming facades and bridges as you discover the city from water.

I have lived my whole life in Amsterdam and used to work in finance. When the global financial crisis hit in 2008, I had to find another job. This became a chance to act upon one of my biggest dreams: to show my city to travellers and to become a local tour guide. At the time, I travelled a lot and visited cities with locals, which gave me the idea of doing the same thing here in Amsterdam. Although there are already a lot of professional “history” guides, there aren’t many locals giving visitors insight into everyday life and tips about visiting the city. Although I don’t have an art or history background, I love my city and I know a lot of hidden places that I enjoy sharing. I think of myself as more of a personal travel assistant, and I always tailor my tours to your specific requirements. I recommend spending your first day in Amsterdam with me to find out everything you need to know to make your stay memorable. My aim is to share the best food, drinks and unusual places that are difficult to find without a local. It's about tasting the city with the help of a friendly Amsterdammer. When I’m not guiding, I like to dance, go to the movies, enjoy good food, go out and simply enjoy life.
