Discover London while cycling
Multifaceted capital, London shifts constantly between tradition and modernity with its buildings of all styles and times. To discover and fully appreciate this amazing city, nothing like cycling, one of the londoners’ favorite means of transport, for whose bike paths are arranged throughout the urban network.
London, cycling city offering a complete panoramical view
It is easy to get lost in London, labyrinth city where each area is unique. To really soak up the atmosphere while learning its topography, cycling is the best option. Easy to park, saving transport costs, and easy to go from one neighborhood to another, while discovering the contrasts of the city made of monuments and historic buildings (such as the Tower of London, Big Ben and the Tower Bridge) adjoining contemporary buildings (such as the Tate Modern, the Shard and the Gherkin). If you want to use the city bikes the british capital has more than 400 bikes terminals scattered throughout the city center (zones 1 and 2) with a small cost of 2 pounds per bike for twenty four hours of use.
London best cycling routes
Located in the city center, the royal parks of London are known for their numerous cycling paths. Hyde Park, Green Park, Regent’s Park, Kensington Gardens ect… Strolling around by bike in these huge green spaces is very pleasant and allows also to switch from one corner of the city to another in a peaceful way.
London canals are also popular for those enjoying cycling along the water and boats (one of my favorite canal cycling routes is the one from Marylebone to Camden Town, with a street art work of famous artist Banksy hidden under a bridge on the way…)
Another beautiful bike path to take is the Thames one, mainly reserved for bicycles, which allows to enjoy some magnificent views of the city and its monuments.
Around London, there are more bike lanes including the River Wandle and the Lee Valley Park.
London and the World Cycling Championships
If you are fan of cycling, do not miss the London World Cycling Championships this year (from March 2nd to 6th, 2016). An important event in the British capital to be held in velodrome London with 19 qualifying events for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
