Beginning of the Cannes festival, most glamorous event of 2016

This Wednesday, May 11th, the Cannes Film Festival makes its grand entrance on the Croisette in the small port town of the French Riviera.

Red carpet unrolled, photographers on their toes and impatient crowd: the 69th edition of this great cinematic event promises, as every year, to be exceptional!

For the occasion, Julia Roberts, Robert de Niro, Marion Cotillard, Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Diane Kruger and dozens of other international stars put on their finest outfits to assist to the film selection as well as the prestigious awards ceremony which will end on May 22nd.

A nice way to also honor the work of the biggest fashion houses such as Chanel, Dior and Givenchy who worked hard to dress the Hollywood stars.

This 69th edition will be chaired by the director, producer and screenwriter Australian George Miller, with a jury including Vanessa Paradis, the American actress Kirsten Dunst, the Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, the Italian actress Valeria Golino and the French filmmaker Arnaud Desplechin.

The Cannes Selection 2016

This year, 21 films from 14 different countries are presented in the official competition, but only one will receive the golden Palm from the hands of the President George Miller. Among them, film Julieta by Pedro Almodovar, Personal Shopper Olivier Assayas, and the Last Face of Sean Penn. As explained in the previous article, lovers of the 7th art will have the opportunity to see these movies for free in different cinemas in Cannes, subject to appropriate behavior and outfit.

The opening film meanwhile, will be Café Society by Woody Allen (a movie about cinema and taking place in the 30th).The American director is one of the regulars of the festival because it is the third time one of his films is presented at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival, after Hollywood Ending (2002) and Midnight in Paris (2011).
